For first-time users
Welcome to the climbing wall!
We are happy about your visit. You can do climbing on routes more than 10 meters long. You can enjoy climbing safely with enough knowledge and skills.
Necessaries when climbing
Necessary equipment
Only indoor shoes and clothes that are comfortable to move around in.
You can borrow or rent other necessaries (climbing shoes, a harness, and GriGri) at Gotenshita.
We lend harnesses and GriGri for free but rent climbing shoes out at 200 yen per 4 hours.
Climbing orientation
Climbing is a dangerous sport. You have to learn the basic techniques (belaying) so that a falling climber does not fall very far.
So please attend a climbing orientation (for free) to get skills.
The climbing wall committee conducts orientations for free once or twice every month except March and August.
You MUST visit it and obtain a certification card to use the climbing wall.
If you can’t be bothered to learn complex skills
If you hate studying, we recommend bouldering. Bouldering does not require any bothersome techniques (though there are some rules). Please attend a bouldering orientation.
If you are not a student of the University of Tokyo
We are sorry, but off-campus people cannot attend the climbing orientation. If they want to use the wall, they have to be accompanied by a member of the climbing wall committee. Please understand.
We recommend that people outside the university go to the private climbing gym such as T-wall and Pump (see Link).
